Hydrogen Cars
for Sale
Hydrogen cars for sale are few and far between. In fact, as of
this writing there has been zero production hydrogen cars sold
from the major six automakers, or any major automaker.
Sure, there have been a few hydrogen cars for lease such
as the Honda FCX, Honda FCX Clarity and the Mercedes B-Class
F-Cell. But, those leases only last a few year and then
the carmakers take them back and analyze the results.

Another way to get a hydrogen car now is to take your regular
vehicle into the two or three custom shops nationwide that will
convert your gasoline engine to run on hydrogen fuel. The process
of this conversion costs more than most new cars.

But, there are a couple of hydrogen cars
for sale now. Both of these hydrogen vehicles were built
as proof of concepts that they actually worked. One car
is a 1972 AMC Gremlin built by students and faculty at UCLA
in the same year.

The Gremlin was donated by AMC and the engine, a 351 Boss was
donated by Ford. The students did the rest of the work including
installing hydrogen fueling tanks, couplings, and slight modifications
to the internal combustion engine.
The hydrogen Gremlin was built in order to compete in the 1972
Urban Vehicle Design Competition, an event which was never repeated.
This hydrogen car for sale then went to Barris motors where is
was raced as a novelty auto for a while, then it went to various
museums and then in the 1990's a private car collector in Florida
bought it.
This same car collector is now selling this piece of automotive
history for a mere $9,000. Granted, the car isn't pretty to look
at, but when you see how few hydrogen cars have been built over
the year, then you'll discover why other collectors, historians
and museums will be interested in this vehicle.
Another hydrogen car for sale is actually a hydrogen truck for
sale. The person selling this 2006 Ford Ranger is an engineer
that actually worked on converting this truck to a hydrogen-on-demand
vehicle.

The company subsequently folded and he was allowed to keep
the hydrogen truck and now he wants to sell it. The truck
comes fully loaded with thousands of dollars of modifications
on it and it can run on hydrogen, CNG or hythane with is
a combination of CNG (compressed natural gas) and hydrogen.
The asking price is $15,000 which is once again a steal
in that this is a piece of automotive history that many
will want for their own. Hydrogen cars for sale are few
and far between.

The major automakers have said that they will all have hydrogen
cars for sale in as early as 2015, but the price tag will most
likely be considerable. If you don't want to wait until 2015 rolls
around and the major automakers start their limited rollout of
H2 vehicles then you may want to snatch one of the two hydrogen

TigerGen I
The TigerGen I was built by Mizzou Hydrogen Car Team out of the
University of Missouri starting in 2006. This hydrogen fuel cell
car took 3 years to complete building. The car went up for auction
in the latter half of September 2011. An unnamed bidder paid $3,650
for the car in As Is condition.
Note, I'm not making a dime off of this. I'm a hydrogen
car advocate and want to see hydrogen cars succeed in the marketplace.
Anything I can do to spur this along will be gratifying enough
for me.
